The GEC Sports Day 2012

The "Every Decade" GEC 2012 Sports day took place last night full of excitement and was an extravaganza indeed.

With exciting events like, longest french fry, 180 degree long jump and the water relay it was truly a night of heart wrenching fun and a few suprises.

The Longest French Fry Challenge
The first event that took place was the Longest French Fry challenge. A competition with a long history within the GEC that started with this event, the first ever event.

The tournament french fries bowl was passed around and the competitors skillfully threaded their fingers to fish out the longest fry.

After some feverish moments, clammy fingers and slight confusions, the french fries were chosen. And lengths were tabulated. It was a close challenge all round.

Some confusion ensued as well as Harper was disqualified for confusing this game with the most French Fries Challenge that is traditionally held on New Years.

In the end, Terence aka kuta was the eventual champion, edging out by a burnt tip of potato, Desmond aka Desso.

The 100 Percent Backward Dash
This event was the highlight of the day. The glamour event of the night. And unsurprisingly we saw many competitors vie for the top spot. All in all we received a record number of entrants for this race. With three heats being held to eventually streamline the numbers to an impressive field of the top four backward runners. Michael aka 34, Matt aka the singer, Alicia aka duck and Warren aka spacecow.

As expected the race was fast and furious, with some controversy and competitive jostling for the lead. We saw Matt take the top spot, dark horse Michael crept into second place, while Alicia jostled her way to the third spot. Warren got confused and came in a close fourth.

2 x 1 "wind-up toy" Relay Race
This race, unique to the GEC Sports Day Extravaganza, requires man and machine to work together as one. We see the symbiotic union of man and a semi autonomous android, work hand in hand to try and win this very grueling race. A thinly veiled social commentary of modern life in Singapore today.

Due to the extreme complexity of this event, there were not many takers. But with the teams that did take part, we saw an almost futuristic amalgamation of man and machine.

And there were two eventual winning teams Matt and Jacky and Warren and Vivian.

Suprisingly, the Matt and Jacky collaboration initially saw a mix up with an android malfunction as the android that they were using just refused to take the orders from, the head team android programmer, Matt. Apparently they were using an older model android. This problem was rectified as they were given a reprieve and took part in their second race and managed to come up tops.Matt and Terence here neck to neck, persuading their androids to move faster.

This is another event that is unique to the GEC Sports Day. A highly specialised jumping method that requires months of conditioning before it can even be attempted. We saw some exciting action here. Alicia aka duck and Desmond aka desso's early lead was usurped by a late surge by suprise of the night Terence aka kuta. Still recovering from a bout of flu, he still found it in him to give the leap of his life and astound all around with a record breaking jump. This giving him his second medal for the night. .

Water Relay Race

Alicia is slow but steady and not letting the sneaky Sher-Ann trick her by asking her to smile for the camera.

The final event for the night, and some say the most sought after win at this event. This relay race is steeped in tradition. After an initial mix up with the first race, the second race gave us our champions. The team of Warren, Karen, Alicia and Michael came up tops. Great form and concentration in the face of much taunting and attempts at distraction by the other teams. "The trick is in the water and not way" said a very philosophical Warren aka spacecow after the race.

The Suburbans

After months out of the lime light, The Suburbans have returned. With their immensely successful concert at the Treehouse, they are now primed for more dabblings with music. The official release of their album "Everybody Get Ready to Rock" has seen a resurgence of interest in the band.

Their first single, a rock acoustic ballad show that the band has returned in fine form. Pervy boy guitarist Andrew Chia collaborated with The Suburbans to record this song. With poignant heartfelt lyrics penned by Michelle Tan, the song gained immediate notice by all around who knew there was something special about this song. Casting Form on the Bench looked to be a hit in the making. Expect a music video to follow the release of the single soon. Concepts are currently being fleshed out and the search for a director to helm the spot is underway.

Balancing for the moment?

For the first 8 seconds, all that was going through my head was, “if the Karate Kid can do it, and so can I, would I make it to the ultimate fighting championship next Thursday?”

In the next second, there was sand between my toes and I was no longer ‘Daniel-San’, I was Jeane Reveendran, the girl who probably had to train a little harder before endeavoring in Championships, which involve a bruise or two on one shoulder (so I hear).

Why is keeping in balance so important?

Why did Mr Miyagi insist that ‘Daniel-San’ learn how to stay in a position like mine?

We all know that movies are where we gain counsel and knowledge on how to live life in the real world? So, when Yoda says “When 900 years you reach, look as good, you will not,” I believe he is telling us that plastic surgery is the way to go, and botox is not that bad an idea.”

You can be either in the state of balance or in the state of trying to be in balance.

Often comfort can be mistaken for balance. We feel comfortable in our situation, perhaps working in a high-flying job, with three cars, a dung beetle as a pet and drinks after work with friends. We don’t want to give up jobs that we hate because we are afraid that by doing so, we will affect the balance in our account books.

Thus, we succumb to balance and continue our comfortable lives.

However, sometimes we have to realize that being in balance does not exactly mean true contentment or happiness.

Maybe it’s time to find a different routine, if Ginger is a back stabber, maybe make friends with Colby, don’t be afraid to try new things. Skip the treadmill and join Hip Hop with Natile at your gym, you may not have hips that don’t lie but you’d be lying to yourself if you didn’t wish you had the guts to join a class but was too afraid to be called a ‘real fat ass bull in a China Shop’.

Hence, if you’re not happy with the pole of life you are balancing on, don’t be afraid to learn how to balance on another pole of experience. It may take a while to find your balance again, but you just might like it.

After a lengthy break, the GEC Parkour stars break all convention and take parkouring to a new level. Never just content with the expected, the GEC Parkourers have always looked for new ways to take their art form to the next phase, and this time its no different. Pushing their technical and physical abilities to their limits, they have set the standards that others can only aspire to achieve. A voluntary fund raising organization, seeks to construct blissful memories among acquaintances. First established in mid 2006 by founder, Geok. Recalling back, that morning she prepared a delightful spread of sandwiches and ask everyone to make a contribution according to how much we believe her sandwiches were worth, than today we have our Two Oceans Kitty Fund.

For those who have once contributed to the Two Oceans Kitty Fund, must be wondering where your generous donations went. Up to date, funds raised over the past half year was finally sufficient to write our very first heavenly chapter of our memoirs. With the funds raised, kitty fund keeper and that’s me decided to spent it on the below items to prepare a scrumptious breakfast for Two Oceans at present one N only producer, the directors and the freelancers on a random day depending on my mood.

The 1st Golden Clapper Board Production People Awards 2007

Hi there all people of the production world.
The votes are all finally in and here are the final results for
the 1st Golden Clapper Board Production People Awards 2007

After all the votes were tabulated The GEC Blogorama presents the eventual winners, as well as the 2nd and 3rd placed challengers, of the various categories that were up for contention.
While there were no surprises in most of the categories, there were some odd and surprising nominations as well. But all votes are seen in a fun light and all votes and nominations were in good spirit and fun.
New categories were also suggested, "most sexy", "most horny" and "most weird", these however, will be reserved for the next Clapper Board Awards.
Any appeals or complaints can be furnished to the GEC blog and will be looked into.

Losing bets to GECers, a guy called Mr. Cobra and Jumping

After a lengthy quiet, we have some new things for the GEC blog.

Firstly, some good old fashioned toe flipping.
Everyone knows its not a good idea to make a bet with a GECer as the consequence is often painful and torturous. An often used forfeit for losing a bet is the flipping of the toenail. Where the loser of the bet has to flip his toenail(often the big toe) up. Though painful for the loser it always gets GECers really happy and excited at seeing the flipped toe.

Here is a video of one such happy instance.

Secondly, the GEC blog is proud to introduce to the world, Mr. Cobra - man of violence.
In this short video watch as Mr. Cobra proves to all around that he is made of stern stuff and is not one for the faint of heart.
Warning: Do not attempt to try this yourself, as Mr. Cobra is a trained professional.

Thirdly, we witness another "losing a bet" to some GECers occurence.
This time the unlucky victim, viviana aka vivi, loses her bet and is made to drink a random packet of tea that is hanging nearby, one of the many popular forfeits commonly practiced by GECers. Again this forfeit will never fail to induce much laughter and excitement amongst the GECers watching.

The force of gravity has attacked me

Now:
I am one with the ground, but where reality cannot make me stay.
As:
My dreams will come back and lift me off into a world where LIFE is a plane ride from infinite meaningful voayages to unlimited destinations.

I have many crazy outlandish dreams, some that Michael Jackson might probably say, "hey, even I couldn't do that," but it has occurred to me recently that it doesn't matter if I MAKE it but more that I TRIED it.

Perhaps it's easy for me to say it because I'm not eating out from a can of corn beef that I have been rationing for the past three days, because I'd rather spend $1.20 on a bus ride to audition for the next Singapore Idol. However, at the moment, everything that I have accomplished or failed to accomplish has really added so much colour to my life, and at least I can look back at my book of life and see my pictures in colour as opposed to black and white.

From a dance audition that I had to do a pirouette in, but ended up looking like a tornedo had possessed my body; to being Sheikh Haikel's back up dancer; I have come to a place where it's just so exhilirating to see what I will or will not eventually end up doing.

Many times we think that an Asian performing at Madison Square Gardens or MTV's TRL is a crazy dream to pursue but tell that to RAIN and he'll tell you "he is coming on the roof top and that he won't stop". So I don't have abs of utmost steel, and maybe my dance moves resemble the Singapore workout a bit too much; but I do have a great personality, and my mum told me that character goes a long way!

I'm pretty sure Brittney Spears didn't get to where she is from just looking like a sex kitten with a good voice, I hear that she's a real sweet person and that's all that matters.

So,

today's lesson.

Work on that personality of yours! U never know when your plastic boobs will burst or your plastic nose will melt. LOOK at this world as not something you will conquer but something that you can conquer your fears in.

Wisdom is tiring.

I will go now.

I need more and I need style too

Are you more stylish because you know what style is about, or are you more stylish because you know how to get more?

This has been the question of the month that has left many a GECers dumbfounded and wondering as to what the right answer, as well as what the wrong answer, really is. One thought about this put forward by a random GECer was that style was the matter of factly point in question and that more was the numerical value of that. This he claimed would mean that style and more, both work in tandem with each other and not opposing to each other. This he felt would be the reason why the utterance of the sentence, "I need more style!" would not create ripples in the grammatical halls of yore.

Definately a point to consider.

It is ALIVE!

Lo and behold, the GEC Blog is Alive!
This reincarnate of the GEC Website has a life all of its own as it appears to grow all by itself. With contributions coming in from GECers, this GEC blog has come to have the variety and the spice that the GEC website could not as the only writer for the website was the GEC HQ*.

OK, now back to happenings in the GEC, well much has happened in the past month since the start of this blog and here are some quick updates with pictures if possible.

Carl and Boo's Birthday Bash was an event to behold, with generous amounts of alcoholic items and much consumption of these items, it was a night of merriment and fun type of activities. Here on the left are the comic printout of the picture taken of the fun night at Acid Bar.

Other GEC happenings in the past month were the outcomes of two GEC competitions.

The GEC Pool Super Winners Championship saw Warren wrestle the crown from the hands of Tino in the final deciding game. In the picture on the right you see a disgruntled tino trying to overturn the match and go for the win.

Also the Annual GEC Chicken Dance Race once again saw mass disqualifications of contestants for infringement of the very strict race rules. This led to the eventuality of there not being any winners in the end but a strong challenge was put up by aundrea aka midge and tino aka satchler head for the top GEC Chicken Dance Racer title. We see in the picture, the Chicken Dance Race in progress but all contestants were disqualified due to a technicality. A reschedule of the event is expected soon.

the GEC Boggle Showdown expects a close fight amongst the very reknowned GEC boggle exponent, carl aka mrs. robinson who is expecting some tough competition from some tough new GEC Bogglers. "There is never one way to play boggle, as long as you go for it you would have went for it," said a confident alan aka champs elysee when asked about his prospects in the upcoming competition.

Also the 2nd Monopoly GEC Challenge is also in the pipeline, as GECers try and oust current GEC Monopoly champion warren aka spacecow from the top spot. Said a seemingly ruffled warren recently, "the challenge this time seem more real as some big names have signed up to play in this second Monopoly challenge, it won't be a simple walk in the park this time around". Amongst the big names expected this time are carl aka mrs. robinson, tino aka satchler head and elizabeth aka boo. Returning to the fight are GEC Monopoly stars aundrea aka midge and the number one contender, alan aka champs elysee. Expect a fight to the death in this showdown. Also watch out for the GEC Fashion Jamboree 2006 to be released on the GEC Blog soon. Its High Fashion in the Real World.

And finally a big GEC congratulations to fellow GEC contributor, pal and colleague desmond aka moFo for his stupendous achievement in getting the BND** Award at the recent Creative Circle Awards. An achievement surely worthy of GECer of the month for October and November.

THE MADNESS HAS BEGAN!!!!!!!

the return of the GEC. YAY!!!!!!!! sorta....

for those of you who dun know, i jus had the greatest GEC adventure in taiwan with the best GECers of all time, alicia aka duck, michelle aka sally, darren aka tanny, michael aka 34 and azlan aka lan. we did soooo many mad GEC approved things it was ridiculous. we wen row boating, hiking, road tripping, BBQing in the most beautiful SML (sun moon lake), met a landslide, played ball in a mad hot springs that had basketball net, created amazing race games, ate like we never ate before eg, wild boar, smelly tofu, mad taiwan things. then there was the beatlenut girls in their skimpy outfits on the road side. the karaoke in which duck's taiwan pals organized for us. confucious and his amazing white porsche caymen, the great nanjing fuxing (which lan calls fucksing) apartment of duck's in which all jammed into creating a huge mess. and me being called a bitch 2nd day i was there which i am. michelle aka sally's screaming wanting to get out of the row boat and difficulties breathing during hiking. duck's blind fold while walking across a suspended bridge with michael aka 34 holding on to her. and all our mad juxtapositions. it was all in all one of the best trips i've been.

so i wanna thank the pals that made it great! the seriously polite asian country that is recycle aware, taipei. and all of spring films for this great time.

Dear people of blog land,

I have come in peace and much harmony to promote LIFE beyond the grave of regret, self-inhibition and boredom. Strange it might be that the first picture of me you witness is one of me pulling at a statue of a boy's fallen shorts. I say fallen because I was not the one who pulled it down.

On the contrary, from the goodness of my heart, I was trying to save him from obscenity and the ridicule of man kind. Alas, I failed. However, isn't it interesting that this picture can be understood differently? That perhaps, a desperate young woman was hanging onto the shorts of a pre-pubescent boy?

That's my point of the day blog people of blog land, LIFE should always be seen from many different angles. As my favourite author Paulo Coelho speaks of not judging the path before one sees the gate, I would like to add " don't judge the gate nor the path."

The gate may be rusty and the path may be rocky but grab a bunch of funky ass friends and watch the rocks smooth into a yellow brick road which leads to absolute FUN.

So,

don't hold back.

Help pull up a boy's shorts and get someone to take a picture of you (regardless of what other's might think of you!)

Oh yea, and in relation to GEC.

For this packet of teh Cowy got me, I decided that I am gonna post my very first entry on our gecblog. So pardon me for my bad usage of words… heehee. I really have no idea what I am gonna put up here…coz unlike my own personal blog, I could post whatever nonsensical stuff. After giving some thoughts, I have decided… and here goes…

Exactly one year & five months ago, it never crossed my mind that I would come across a silly, childish, irritating, bloody vomiting gang… like you guys. Despite all of your irrational actions, I am gratified that fate has brought us to become acquaintance. Life has never been that comical before all of ya all landed in my tiny corner. Though I barely communicate or hang out with you all, I wana tell you that you all mean a lot to me. This might not be important to you but sure is important to me. One day, should all of these become history, I will always remember you gang as my “ex-colleagues.”

And so after several months of deprivation and shortage of quality GEC content, the GEC is finally up and running again in the form of the net's most favorite blog provider, blogger.com. For some, blogging is a form of catharsis, relief and even as an simple crack in the wall to whisper one's secrets, and likewise this blog for the GEC.

We would like to encourage anyone and everyone to post something, contribute, rant, write, draw, hack (ok I didn't really say that lest the Xiaxue haters are out there reading this.) This is but a natural evolution to the movement called the GEC. Always on the forefront of technology and always rife with quality articles, reviews and creative showmanship. So grab your pens, pencils and paint brushes and whack away. For what are we but you and you are what we are....or something like that. Well you get the message.

OK, with the setting up of this blog the GEC HQ has also gone about getting contributors to this blog, so it becomes a blog by GECers for themselves to read what they just wrote. So all GECers that feel the calling to want to write anything at all, feel free to email the GEC HQ so that you too can say what you want.
With that said, the GEC is happy to introduce Divine Rod, Mrs. Robinson and kairi, in addition to spacecow as fellow contributers to this blog.

Gaming, in particular CS, seems to be making a return to the GEC. Spearheaded by non other than, GEC CS stalwarts Carl aka Mrs. Robinson, Donovan aka Divine Rod and Dave aka hookstyle. "We want more action!" said a determined donovan when he was asked about the sudden return of CS. A match with GEC nemesis the Pboys appears to be in the cards for the not to distant future. Expect a close fight this time as the Pboys have been honing their skills and appear to be at their peak, while the GECers are returning after a lengthy lay off. But in CS anything can happen.

The GEC Twister competition on the 19th of October saw warren aka the spacecow take the top spot after a close fight back from the rest of the chasing pack.

In the picture you see alan aka champs elysee crumble under warren aka the spacecow as he notches yet another point to emerge champion for the tournament.
